The CEREC crown process starts with a digital scan of the teeth and oral tissues. The dentist evaluates the tooth being prepared for the crown and plans the final restoration. They then prepare the tooth. Another scan lets the dentist fit the crown perfectly into the prepared tooth.

The dentist takes the imaging data and crown design to the CEREC machine, which uses it to create the final product.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a relatively economical replacement for one or more adjacent teeth. Types of bridges are as follows:

Crown-Supported Bridge

Crown-supported bridges are the most common type. Two teeth placed on either side of the gap receive crowns to prepare them to hold the pontic or artificial tooth.

Implant-Supported Bridge

If the natural teeth are not strong enough to support crowns, the dentist can install implants to hold the bridge in place. Implant-supported bridges are just as durable as the crown-supported type.

Maryland Bridge

A Maryland bridge fits between two teeth and uses "wings" to attach on either side of the gap between teeth.

Cantilever Bridge

Cantilever bridges come into play when there is only one available anchor point. These bridges appear less frequently because they stress the tooth with the crown. They have support on one side.

To receive a crown or bridge (except implant-supported bridges), you will need sufficient natural tooth structure to hold it properly. If your tooth does not have enough usable surface to attach the bridge or crown, you may need to have the tooth extracted and consider an implant or partial denture.
